I have a question.
We're going to a neighbourhood BBQ on Saturday night. The invitation says to bring drinks and lawn chairs and that BBQ food will be provided.
I still feel like I need to be bringing something. Would it be cool if I brought lettuce from our garden along with a bottle of salad dressing?
Dan thinks it's not cool because he's worried they won't be providing plates and forks and salad obviously requires plates and forks.
Thoughts?

How the heck does he expect to eat his BBQ if not with a plate and fork?

Dear Confused and Melting,

I second that emotion, the forks and plates issue and the melting in Texas. I am in Dallas!

I had my AC cranked so high in my car today that it felt like December... you know, those bright, half-cloudy, sunny-but-cold days? Man, those are my favorite.

I was just thinking on my way into work "at least it still looks like spring." Everything is still green... except the grass on the sides of the highways. Brown dead grass = summer. Who'da thunk it?

what about a cutting up the lettuce and some tomatoes and onion? on a platter--it would go with bbqed food? (like toppings?)

or..

just, run to the dollar store and buy a bag of the small plates(like the small ones, not the big dinner-size ones) and a bag of forks. keep them in your car when you arrive, and if they need them, play it like this

"Oh shoot! i brought some, I forgot them in the car--!"

and if they don't need them--no worries, you can ALWAYS use plates and forks :)

That's a good idea, just the side plate size. I can't leave them in the car, because it's just up the road, but I could get them and just throw them in a bag with like my sweater and stuff.
You're brilliant!! :)

I was gonna suggest that, or do a finger food, like veggies or squares... Then those could be put on napkins even. :)

Btw, not looking like we can come tomorrow... Don't think we're going ANYWHERE unless I recover miraculously in the night. :P

No problem.
If you do decide you want to come, I'll give you my # and you can just call. 705-939-6278

Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

Veggies & Dip is also a good suggestion, I will consider that one too!! I also like the squares idea, but since I can't bake to save my life...the veggies are looking more appealing!! ;)

veggies and dip is messy though--keep that in mind.
(not to mention the dreaded double-dippers! yuck!) ;)

hehe :)

I've never been to a BBQ that didn't provide plates and utencils!

I don't think you need to take anything. You could call them and ask. Otherwise, just bring YOU, the chairs and your drinks. Bring some extra plates and cutlery just in case. But store them in a bag.. or something. People can get "weird" and "offended" over the goofiest things!

I don't think you need to bring anything. Chances are if they've decided on the food, they'll have everything you could want or need. Besides, if it sucks, you can always rush home and eat and then go back for the socializing. :D
