I got to try a new sport last night...Luge! In my car...
It was freezing rain here yesterday so the roads were bad. Dan and I were driving home from work. He stopped at the top of the hill to get the mail and then we headed down to our house. At the top of the hill, Dan puts on the breaks. The ABS kicks on and stays on and we continue to accellerate down the hill. I was sure we were going to ditch the car or hit a tree or something, but Dan did really really well. He managed to keep us on the road and get us stopped safely. We were about 3/4 of the way down the hill and I hear Dan say something, but I didn't hear what. We get to the bottom and he says "I didn't have my seat belt on". He'd taken it off when he got the mail at the top of the hill and didn't bother to put it back on again.
Scary stuff!!
We were also expecting my parents to come over last night as well. So I went in the house and right away started trying to call them to tell them not to come down the hill in their car. It was about 45 minutes before they were supposed to arrive (which for my parents, means they could be there any minute) and we still weren't able to get a hold of them, so Dan decided he was going to walk up to the top of the hill and meet them so they didn't try and come down the hill. Their car is much heavier than ours, so they either would have wound up in the ditch or would have tried to pull into our driveway and would have hit our car.
Luckily though, Dan was able to get a hold of my parents in a last ditch effort to try calling them before he headed up the hill to just wait for them. He found out where they were and agreed to meet them at the top of the hill. Just as they showed up, our neighbour was able to get his sanding truck up and down the hill a couple of times so my parents were able to drive down with no problems.
I hate freezing rain!! We've had more this year than like the last three years combined. No good at all!!!
