Long Weekend...

Okay, by now you all had to have known it was coming. I disappeared for the weekend again. This time it wasn't entirely my fault though.
My Internet was down Friday through most of Sunday and today I was at my parents' house (I know...excuses excuses...) But I'm back now and I'll fill you in on the weekend! :)

Friday:
Got held up at work late because the only person still at work trained to do switchboard was "busy typing". Hello.....like there isn't a computer at the reception desk for you to use??? But anyway, it was only like 15 minutes, so it's all good.
So I left there late and headed for home to find a pleasant surprise, Dan had gotten off from work early and was at home waiting for me with the news that Mike had left for the evening and wouldn't be returning for the remainder of the weekend!!
We proceeded to do a small celebration dance and then made supper. After supper we sat down with some bank statements and my financial info (pay stubs, etc.) and made up a student loan repayment plan for me now that I'm working full time. It's a good idea!!
Decided we wanted something for dessert but had nothing suitable in the house, so we went for a walk first and then ended up with posicles. Then we vegged in front of the tube for a while. My brother called while we were watching TV to let me know that he rear ended a Tracker in the car that I still legally own and am taking in for certification next weekend so we can transfer the ownership. He said he put a pretty good smile in the hood and so far has been unsuccessful in getting it to latch again properly!! If that in any way affects the certification, he's so dead (and broke too, I'm not going to pay for that!!)
Then we headed to bed.

Saturday:
Got up around 8am because we had a meeting with a caterer in Oshawa at 11:30 and we wanted to stop in at my parents' place first to get the laundry started. We had some cereal, and showered and took off. Half way there Dan realized he had forgotten his wallet which = no driver's license. Being a long weekend there are always extra cops out, so he decided to let me do the driving for the rest of the weekend. Great, his car (A Pontiac Sunbird) feels like such a boat to me after driving my hatchback VW Golf for so long!!
Got to my parents house and got the first load washed and into the dryer and then left again for the caterer. We had an interesting meeting with her. We had some bad references from friends of the family, so had pretty much written them off before even going in the door. Just wanted to give them one last chance to redeem themselves and they did. The same friends of the family that gave the caterer the bad reference had also given us a list of banquet halls in the area that catered their own halls and told us which ones were good. The caterer asked us which other halls we were considering so we listed off a few and she told us that they were all good halls and their company was the exclusive caterer to all of them. So the best we can figure is that maybe ownership or something has changed since the last time this family friend dealt with them. We're going to take our chances either way and go with them. We just need to book our hall first (which will probably happen this week sometime) and then book the caterer as well. So we went from having it almost all settled, to being up in the air, to now being almost all settled again. Aggh!! :)
After the caterer we headed back to the house to switch the laundry (we had 4 loads to do!!) and get some lunch. Then we switched the loads again before heading out to do some shopping. I got 2 new skirts (2 for $29) and 2 tops (2 for $25) at Penningtons, then 2 more (50% off) at Addition Elle. We went to Loblaws after that and picked up a pizza and salads for dinner. Switched the laundry one last time and vegged on the couch and ate/watched TV while waiting for it to finish drying. My parents called while we were watching TV to let me know that they bought a house in North Bay that day. How did I know they were going to buy something their first day out...they're so impulsive like that!! I have to admit though, this house sounds absolutely perfect for them, except that they spent about $100,000 more than they had planned to on it!!
Then we headed to IGA to do my big grocery shop for the week and headed back into Toronto. It was hot and stuffy in the apartment, so we set up our big double folding chairs on our back balcony and read our books in the nice breeze for about an hour. Then went to bed shortly afterwards.

Sunday:
Finally got a chance to sleep in!! It was 10:30 before we rolled out of bed, what a bunch of lazybones!! Then we got even lazier and just lazed around in my room until well after noon. Him playing on my computer and me reading, both soaking up the air conditioning!
Around 1 we decided that it was time to do something with our day, so we showered and went up to Wal-Mart to fill out my summer wardrobe. I got two more skirts and another shirt along with some shave gel and other toiletries.
Headed home again, but stopped on the way to pick up a movie (A.I., wouldn't recommend it...) and some frozen peas so I could make a potato salad for dinner.
Came home and made the potato salad, but after cooking in the kitchen for half an hour we were wilting, so we came and hung out in my room again with the air conditioning on (best investment ever, let me tell you!!).
Then we BBQ'd some hamburgers and had those with potato salad for dinner. Dan set up a big pedestal oscillating fan that the previous tenants had left behind and we sat in front of that to watch our movie. Went to bed again shortly afterwards.

Monday:
Tried to sleep in again, but I guess we'd had too much sleep the last night, because we were out of bed again by 8:30. Again though, we chose vegging in my Air Conditioned room over anything else. Around noon my mom called and asked what we were up to and if we were hot. She invited us over to their place for the afternoon for some air conditioning and the pool and a BBQ for dinner. Sounded great so we got our asses in gear and were out the door by 1:00.
Had a great afternoon over there. Spent probably an hour in the pool (which was 82F!!) and got too much sun as usual. I'm not a lobster, just pink. I swear sunscreen does nothing for me!
We had some grilled veggie sandwiches for dinner (I brought the leftovers home with me...) and hung our feet in the pool some more. Around 6:00 Dan left for home and shortly afterwards my parents drove me to the train station to catch the 7:00 train back into Toronto, and here I am at home. :)

Dan and I had been talking and decided that we were interested in having an engagement party. We talked about just inviting his family (which is no small feat since there are seven of them) over to my parents place for the afternoon for an informal pool party and BBQ. I waited until he was gone to bring the subject up with my mom, just in case she wasn't too keen on the idea it would be awkward for her to say no with Dan right there. She said she'd never heard of an engagement party before, but when I explained it to her she got all excited. She wants to invite like all the family, my aunts and uncles and my grandpa over for the afternoon and go all out. Wow...I'm shocked! :) We're going to talk about it some more, I hadn't even considered inviting all of those people! I'm glad that she's so supportive though, I think she's just looking for stuff to do now that she's retired and has more time on her hands than she knows what to do with. That's fine...I'll take it!! :)
