I will not make any hotel reservations, I don't recommend the one we stayed at and can't really comment on any others. :P
The restaurants were great in general! More affordable than we'd planned on overall. You can get a decent meal at a pub for less than £10 including a pint. You can get really tasty and unique sandwiches at any convenience store or tube station if you're eating on the go. Also, we found lots of cool fresh sandwich shops that were also affordable. Like £3 for a fresh baguette sandwich. Yum!
The tourist spots were busy. It was like being at an amusement park or something, we found the same thing in Rome. For anything that needs a line, go first thing in the morning. We went and looked at the London Eye our first day around 5pm and there was a 3 hour wait. We went back our last day and were there just after the ticket office opened and the only wait we had was for the next empty pod to come down for us to get in. Plus, our pod was less than half full, which menat it was easy to walk around and get all different views for pictures. Normally they cram about 20 people into one!
Also, a lot of the tourist hot spots were covered in scaffolding or otherwise under repair. They're cleaning the city up for the 2012 olympics to be there.
