Nov. 4th, 2005 08:41 amDan and I decided last night that we were going to go to the gym this morning before work, since we won't get there again until Sunday evening when I get home from Ottawa. We worked backwards and figured out that we only have to wake up half an hour earlier than usual to make it work. Great! So we got up this morning and got out the door on time and I had an okay workout. I was dying this morning and just didn't have it in me to really push myself. I still managed to finish my 20 minutes on the elipitcal and then did 10 on the weights machines. I did my stomach and arms.
When we got to the gym, there was a sign on the women's changeroom that said it was closed and that women were to use the family changeroom. No big deal. So I go and drop my bag in the family changeroom and proceed to workout. After the workout I go back into the changeroom and there are signs everywhere saying "Unisex changeroom, no nudity". No big deal again, there are changing stalls all around the room. I choose one and get out of my workout gear into a towel and head for the showers like I always do. This is where I run into a problem. I've never been in the family changeroom before and I had just assumed it was like the women's changeroom...wrong. The showers aren't stalls with curtains, it's just a wall with showerheads and no curtains. UNISEX CHANGEROOM. So I wandered around for a bit looking for another option with no luck, I didn't have my bathing suit with me either. I talked to a lady for advice and she said that she just gave up and showered there, taking a chance that at any moment a man could walk in from the pool and see her showering. Seeing no other option, I was preparing myself to do just about the same. I didn't know what else to do, it was already 7:30 and I needed to be at work by 8:00, so no time to go home and shower first. I briefly considered calling Julie and telling her that I was crashing her place to shower, but I know that her and Jeremy both have the day off today and likely want to sleep in! I was just looking for a place to hang my towel when a woman came out of the wheelchair bathroom and told me there was one shower in there, behind a locking door. I thanked her and turned around to pick up my shampoo off the floor of the shower stall and head in there, well doesn't another woman come along and dart in there before me!!! How rude!!! So I waited for her to get out and then I took my turn showering. I'm glad I didn't shower out in the open because when I came out there was a man showering out there in his bathing suit, and another man came in from the gym side when I was just finishing my make-up. I'm glad we were at the gym earlier than later though, because by the time I left the changeroom there was a line at least 5 women long waiting for the one shower stall!!!
Anyway, it worked out in the end and I'm all worked out and showered and at work. The only thing that suffered is that I was supposed to have a Chiropractor's appointment this morning, but I had to move it to Monday since I was running so late this morning. Despite the experience this morning, I would go and work out before work again.
